For instance, the Anti-smoking act, drunk, drive law, maternity benefits law and so on the act are passed by the public sector of India.

But here, I would like to talk about a law named the dowry prohibition act. This law enacted by the Indian government in 1961. This law made to pun an end to the dowry system in India. The dowry system in India refers to the durable goods, cash, and moveable or real property that the bride’s family gives to the bridegroom, his parents and relatives as a condition of the marriage.

It is known as Dahez in Hindi. In the past time, parents give some household things to their daughter and her husband in order to help them in their new married life. but many greedy people fixed it as a condition for marriage. Besides it, In some cases, the dowry system leads to a crime against women, ranging from emotional abuse and injury to deaths such as some persons kill their law-in-daughter for dowry.

According to this law, giving dowry in India is now prohibited. Section 498A of the Indian Penal Code required the bridegroom and his family to be automatically arrested if a wife complains of dowry harassment. Court gives imprisonment and fine to criminals of the dowry prohibition act.
