Question: What makes people laugh in your country?

Humors, Comedy and Jokes make people laugh. We also tend to a laugh in social situations when we are together with friends and family.

Question: Are comedy TV shows very popular in your country?

Yes comedy shows are very popular in our country. Nowadays every channel has a slot for comedy shows. Earlier comedy shows only aired on weekends but now they also air on weekdays.

Question: Do you think there are any differences between the comedy shows on TV that young people like and those that old people like?

Comedy makes everyone laugh, both old and young. However there might be certain jokes that only young people find funny and similarly there might be jokes that might make only old people laugh. For example jokes about Internet might not make old people laugh for they are not that familiar with it

Question: What do you think are the differences between seeing comedy on TV and reading funny materials in a book?

The first difference is that watching comedy on TV is a passive experience. It does not engage our imagination as much as reading funny materials in a book does. Second, comedy on TV uses expressions of people, books cannot capture certain expressions. Lastly we can enjoy watching comedy shows with others but reading books is something we do alone.

Question: Would you like to appear in a TV comedy program?

Yes, if I given the opportunity I would certainly like to appear in a TV comedy show. I am certain I can make people laugh.

Question: How would you make people laugh?

I can do mimicry of certain actors and actresses. I also know a lot of jokes. Besides that I will prepare certain comedy skits , if I am given the opportunity.

Question: Do you think it’s easy to translate comedy TV programs into other languages?

No, it is actually very difficult. You have to explain what the word means in the language sometimes and the jokes lose their charm if that is done.

Question: Is comedy used much in advertisements in your country?

Yes , comedy is very popular in advertisements. Advertisements are normally considered boring because they interrupt the flow of an interesting movie or a show. Funny advertisements tend to grab people’s attention and hence they are very common.

Question: Do you think funny advertisements on TV are effective?

Advertisements are effective when people remember the product in someway especially when they are out shopping. Our brain tends to remember funny things.

Question: What do you think are the benefits of laughter?

Laughter is very good for health. It not only relieves the stress in our lives but also a creates a positive vibe which makes others around us also happy.

Question: Can you think of any examples of something that some people think is funny when other people don’t think it’s funny?

Yes, there are certainly differences in what different people find funny. For example there are certain dark topics like cancer, skin color, religion that are not acceptable to some people.

Question: Do you think there are differences between what males and females think is Humorous?

I do not think there are any differences in the interception of humors by males and females. Both genders enjoy the sitcoms in the same way and share similar jokes.

Question: Do you think there are differences between what people of different ages think is funny?

Small children enjoy slapstick comedy more then stand up comedy, whereas older people enjoy all types of comedy. Slapstick comedy is a humorous acting in which the actors behave in a silly way such as by throwing things falling over and making funny faces. On the other hand, standup comedy is performed by a single person telling jokes.

Question: Do you think people today are happier than people were before?

No, I don’t think people are happier than the past. The modern fast paced life has brought stresses and tensions in life. Earlier people used to relieve their stress by talking to people but now as everyone is busy in their own lives, it is no more possible.

Question: Do you think people’s idea of “happiness” today is different to the way they thought about happiness in the past?

Yes, the definition of happiness has changed over changed. Today wealth is equated to happiness. Owning a new phone, an expensive car makes people happy. Earlier it was more about spending time in the company of friends and family that brought people happiness.

Question: Does being part of a family make people feel happy?

Being a part of a family gives us an identity. Sharing our joys and sorrows with our family makes us happy.
