Question: What are some things that made you feel happy?

Small things give me happiness. A pat on my back by my elders makes me happy. Food of my choice makes me happy. Outings with my friends make me happy. If my parents are happy with me, I feel happy.

Question: Do you think artistic activities can make people happy?

Artistic activities can definitely make people happy. Art is a stress buster. It is a way of expression. It is a way to communicate your inner feelings. Young people feel happy when they release their pent up energy by dance. In a way they sweat out their stress. If stress is out, happiness is in.

Question:  Do you think people who have more talent are happier than others?

Happiness has nothing to do with talent. Those who are talented and those who are not so talented can be equally happy. Singing a song can give equal happiness to a talented singer and a bathroom singer.

Question: Do you think money makes people happy?

To some extent, yes, money can buy happiness. A person who does not have the basic amenities like food, clothing and shelter can get happiness if he gets the money for these things. But after a certain extent, other things become more important. Good health and good relations with friends and family are more important which cannot be bought with money.

Question: Are the things or events that make people happy today the same as several decades ago?

Things that bring happiness haven’t changed. Celebrations of festivals, marriages, birthdays and passing exams, all bring happiness even today, but today people can celebrate happy events together globally through technology. For example my friend could not come for his sisters marriage as he was away. But, he was all the time there through apps such as video call .

Question: Why do people feel happy when they are with members of their family?

Family is like a person’s own body part. Everyone has a strong bond with one’s family. Family is always with you through thick and thin. So being with family, gives happiness.

Question: What are some examples of family activities that make people happy?

Eating together, watching TV together, playing games together, going for outings and many other such family activities make people happy.

Question: Do you think there is any difference between a person’s age and happiness?

As age advances, one’s priorities change and the things, which give happiness also change. Young people are happy when they themselves achieve something. Parents get happiness from their children’s achievements. The elderly are happy if they are fit ant not dependent on their children.

Question: Some people say the happiest time in people’s lives is the period when they are at school?

I think when a person looks back at his life, he may realize that school days were the happiest. Unfortunately, when we are at school, we don’t realize this. There is so much competition and burden of studies.

Question: When you are older, what kind of things will bring you happiness?

Achievements of ones children and grandchildren, a fit body and financial security give happiness in old age.

Question: Do you think people in the past were happier than they are now?

Earlier, life was slower and people were more relaxed. So, it appears that people were happier then. But, I believe that happiness is a state of mind. Those who want to stay happy can find happiness even in the torrid pace of life today.

Happiness is a state of mind. Different people have different concepts about happiness. For a nursery student, being able to write ‘A’ properly can give happiness. A poor person may get happiness if he wins a lottery. Parents feel happy if their children do well in school.

Question: Do you believe that old people can be happier than young people?

I believe that old people can be happier than young people because young people today have a lot of burden on their shoulders. They have the burden of choosing a career. They have the burden of adopting the culture. They are forced by their parents to adopt the traditional culture but they want to adopt the global culture. They are exposed to a consumerist society in which there are a lot of things, which they want to own, but they don’t have the money for those things.

Question: What do you have to do to achieve a long-term happiness?

We should have a steady career. We should have a good family life and good health. One should know how to strike a balance between work and leisure. One should not be a workaholic.

Question: Is unhappiness always a bad thing?

No, unhappiness is not always a bad thing. It is the unhappiness, which makes us realize the importance of happiness. It is the night, which tells us the value of day.
